10/6/1998 News media contact: Linda Green · (615) 742-5470 · Nashville, Tenn by United Methodist News Service Youth and young adults will have an opportunity to enrich their relationship with God and discern whether they are being called to ordained ministry at a national churchwide event set for Nov. 13-15 in Los Angeles.
The three-day Exploration '98 event is designed to challenge up to 800 young people, ranging from high school juniors to 24-year-olds, to explore their gifts for ordained ministry as deacons and elders in the United Methodist Church. The event will be held at the Los Angeles Airport Hilton and Towers.
The Exploration event is a biennial convocation sponsored by the churchwide Board of Higher Education and Ministry to help young people learn to hear and respond to God's call to a church vocation.
Under the theme, "Light the Fire. . .God's Call to the Ordained Ministry," the ministry of word, sacrament, order and service will be examined by leaders in the church, in theology and in biblical study. The event also will explore ministerial challenges in the next millennium.
